The Set up Chuck Anderson The first step for improving your game, and your ball striking ability, is to improve your set up. Grip, Alignment, Position of the ball and Posture are the four key fundamentals in your set up. The acronym GAPP is a simple way to remember them. Even if your swing is perfect, putting your body into a position that is fundamentally wrong will result in an endless list of problems such as slicing, hooking, falling back, mishits, dipping, shanking, topping, fat or thin shots, just to name a few. Great fundamentals are what great players have in common. When have you ever seen a great athlete have terrible fundamentals? If you want to improve, ignoring the set up will lead to confusion, bad swing habits, and in consistency. Use a mirror and check your fundamentals (GAPP) and your swing will respond to your new set up. When things go wrong, check your set up before you change your swing.
