Lefties Welcome!
Being a leftie no longer requires searching the countryside for golf equipment or a place to practice comfortably. Lefties have a home with Carlsbad Golf Center.
Pro shop. We're not like most pro shops that carry just a few things and say they cater to lefties. CGC actually stocks everything you need in a variety of major brands, sizes and styles in the full spectrum of prices for men, women and juniors:
- Woods
- Irons
- Putters
- Right-hand gloves
- Starter sets
- Or we can special order what we don't stock
Practice areas. Unlike most driving ranges that make you turn mats and ball trays around, we feature 15 permanent hitting bays for lefties. They're located throughout the facility, not just at the ends, and we make sure the artificial grass mats are in excellent condition.
No clubs? We've got them for you. We keep an entire barrel full of left-handed clubs for men, women and juniors. Woods, irons and putters are available: no charge during lessons and just $1 for irons and putters and $3 for woods with the purchase of range balls.
Lessons. Whether you're a new or more experienced golfer, our staff of professionals is ready to help you improve your game. Although all our pros are personally right-handed, our video lessons allow your swing to be compared to left-handed PGA and LPGA Tour stars.
When you're ready to purchase clubs, let us take you through a club-fitting session. We have numerous brands to custom-fit for lefties and they're the same guaranteed low price or even less than right-hand clubs. Properly fit clubs can help prevent the development of improper swing movements that compensate for ill-fitting equipment.

Tempo ( Smooth Grooved Precision )When you work on your tempo remember that the golf swing is one smooth fluid motion from the start to the finish. Not from the start of the swing to the golf ball, or any other check point. If you want distance you should swing the club without sacrificing balance, rhythm and control. A great way to check your tempo is to check your posture at the finish: if you can’t hold your finish for three seconds you’re swinging too fast, too hard or both.
Swing speed (tempo) or how fast you swing the club is a personal subconscious feeling that only you know when it’s right for you. The faster you swing the club, the harder it is to do all the things you need to do during the swing. No two swings are the same. Try different swing speeds, varying from as fast as you can to as slow as you can, and you will find one in between that is just right for you and your body type.
The tempo of the down swing can be compared to a race or, more importantly, the pace of the race of all the muscles racing in a perfect precise order of motion from the start of the downswing to the finish. Try this sequence of motion: Left foot, left knee, hips, left arm, shoulders, wrists, club face. One smooth, grooved accelerating swing speed with no extra effort at impact.
- Stay with the first swing from start to finish.
- Don’t start another swing at the impact area of the golf swing; you are already committed to the swing.
